DoorKing Welding & Fabrication: The Carrollton Owner’s Guide

We stock and install DoorKing-compatible welded gate components in Carrollton, with most fabrication and weld-repair jobs running between $240 and $680 installed depending on whether we’re rebuilding a hinge mount, repairing a cracked gate frame, or fabricating a new bracket from plate steel. Same-day service is available when the part is on our truck, which covers the most common DoorKing pivot arms, hinge plates, and gate frame stress points. Most Carrollton owners discover the problem the same way: the gate starts dragging on one corner, the opener strains audibly, or a weld bead finally separates after years of Texas temperature swings working the steel back and forth.

We’re an independent service provider, not affiliated with DoorKing, which means we can install the OEM part or fabricate a reinforced equivalent without steering you toward a full gate replacement. Adrian Vance has been running welding and fabrication calls on DoorKing-equipped properties in Carrollton since before most of the steel on Arbor Hills-era gates started showing its age.

Which DoorKing Models This Applies To

DoorKing builds its residential and light-commercial operators around a few swing-arm and slide-gate chassis families, and the welded components we replace most often trace back to three of them: the 6000-series swing operators, the 9000-series slide operators, and the 1601/1602 barrier-gate arms. The welded bracket geometry changed between the older 6002 and the current 6050/6100 swing arms, so a bracket cut for a pre-2008 6002 won’t line up cleanly on a newer 6050 without shimming. That’s the kind of distinction we check before any metal gets cut.

On the gate frame itself, the fabrication question is usually less about model numbers and more about steel thickness and stress concentration. Most Carrollton driveway gates are 1.5-inch or 2-inch square tube with 14- or 16-gauge wall, and the failures happen where the hinge plates meet the horizontal rails. When we fabricate a replacement hinge mount, we cut from thicker plate than the original where it makes sense, typically 3/16-inch or 1/4-inch, and we photograph the old part next to the new one before we weld anything. You identify the right part by looking at the bolt-pattern spacing on the hinge plate, the arm-pivot diameter at the operator connection, and any stamped series number on the motor housing. If the stamp is gone, we measure the pivot pin and match it against the DoorKing service manual before ordering or cutting.

DoorKing also licenses a number of OEM-part suppliers for common wear items like hinge bushings and arm pivot pins. For welded structural components, there’s often no factory part available at all because the gate itself was never built by DoorKing. The operator is DoorKing; the gate usually came from a local fabricator. That’s the most important compatibility point an owner can understand: when the weld fails, you’re typically repairing the gate, not the operator, and the right fix is measured in steel and weld technique, not a DoorKing part number.

Signs Your DoorKing Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

Signs Your DoorKing Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
  • The gate drags or scrapes at the free end. The hinge-side weld has stretched or cracked, letting the gate settle a half-inch or more. The opener motor works harder, and you’ll see brighter wear marks where the gate bottom meets the concrete or the guide track.
  • The operator arm clunks at the attachment point. The pivot bracket or the arm’s welded collar has worn oval-shaped. We see this most often on swing gates where the arm bushing was never greased after installation.
  • A visible crack runs along a weld bead near a hinge. Texas temperature cycles make mild steel expand and contract enough that a marginal weld finally separates, usually along the top or bottom of the hinge plate where the load is highest.
  • The gate bounces or flexes during travel. A cracked internal weld lets the frame twist slightly, which the operator reads as load and sometimes trips the obstruction sensor. The bounce is worse on longer gates with only two hinge points.
  • Rust stains weep from a joint that wasn’t sealed. Moisture got inside the tube steel, and the rust is bleeding through a pinhole in the weld. By the time the stain shows, the internal corrosion has usually thinned the wall enough that the joint needs reinforcement plate, not just paint.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Carrollton, welded hinge-plate replacement on a single swing gate runs from $240 to $420. A cracked gate-frame repair with plate reinforcement lands between $280 and $520. Full custom fabrication, like building a new pivot arm from bar stock or replacing a rusted bottom rail, runs $380 to $680. The range depends on steel thickness, how much of the old weld has to be ground out, and whether we’re working on a swing gate or a slide gate. Slide-gate frame work trends toward the upper end because of the added guide-roller and rack alignment involved.

Every quote is written before any metal is touched, which is Haven Standard Clause 1, and the written price includes grinding out the old weld, cutting and fitting the new plate or bracket, welding, cooling time, and a zinc-rich primer coat on the repaired section. We leave you with a photo log of the old part, the new part, the finished weld, and the part number if one applies. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the repair. If the weld cracks or the gate settles again inside a year, we fix it at no additional charge.

Job Type Installed Price Range (Carrollton)
Hinge plate replacement (swing gate) $240 - $420
Cracked frame repair with reinforcement plate $280 - $520
Custom fabrication (pivot arm, bottom rail, bracket) $380 - $680
Rust repair and weld reinforcement (per joint) $180 - $340

We don’t charge separately for the consultation, the measurements, or the written estimate. The price you approve is the price on the invoice. We say it that way because most Carrollton homeowners who call us after another quote have seen the other model: a verbal number, then an invoice that drifted upward. Ours doesn’t drift.

We’ll be direct: welding on a gate frame is not a weekend project for a homeowner with a borrowed flux-core welder. Gate frames carry a couple hundred pounds of steel, and a hinge weld that fails while someone is underneath or next to the gate can cause serious injury. The same goes for grinding and re-welding the operator attachment point on a DoorKing arm; if the arm releases under tension, it moves fast. If you’re not a trained welder, this is one repair where the safety margin is too thin for experimentation.

What a Carrollton owner can safely do is inspect. Check the hinge weld beads for hairline cracks with a flashlight. Look for rust weeping from the joints. Run the gate and watch the arm connection for play. If you see any of the symptoms above, take photos and call us. We’ll tell you over the phone whether it sounds like a bracket, a frame repair, or something adjustable, and we’ll give you a written price before we start.
