Signs Your FAAC Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

- Gate squeals or grinds near the hinge side every cycle. A cracked weld lets the gate leaf flex against the hinge pin instead of pivoting cleanly. The noise is metal-on-metal rubbing; by the time you hear it, that crack has usually propagated through half the weld bead.
- The gate leaf droops and drags on the driveway at the latch end. The bottom hinge weld has stretched or the gate frame’s bottom rail has cracked. Droop is geometry, not opinion. If the latch no longer lines up with the receiver, measure the gap at the top hinge versus the bottom hinge; a difference over a quarter inch means something in the frame has moved permanently.
- The opener strains or trips its thermal limiter mid-cycle. When an FAAC arm mounting bracket flexes, the motor has to push through a moving pivot point. The board sees higher amp draw, gets hot, and trips. Replacing the control board won’t fix it; the slop is in the steel.
- Paint flakes off in a straight line along a tube joint. That’s not weather. That’s a hairline crack opening and closing with every cycle, pumping moisture into raw metal. It shows as a dark line or rust streak that follows the weld edge exactly.
- You can move the gate leaf by hand and feel a dead spot of flex before resistance. Grease has masked the feel of good bearings for years. If the gate feels like it shifts a few degrees before the opener arm takes up the load, the welded attach point is loose.
