Ghost Controls Welding & Fabrication: The Carrollton Owner’s Guide

If the welded bracket, hinge mount, or arm attachment on your Ghost Controls gate opener has cracked, torn loose, or rusted through, we stock compatible fabrication parts on the truck and can usually have your gate swinging again the same day. Installed pricing for most Ghost Controls welding and fabrication work in Carrollton runs $185 to $410, depending on which bracket failed and how much grinding and re-welding the repair requires. You’ll get a written price before we strike an arc, and the part number goes on your invoice before we leave.

The way most Carrollton owners discover this problem is unglamorous. The gate starts sagging half an inch. Then the opener makes a harder noise on the push stroke. Then one morning the arm is hanging loose or the post bracket has sheared off at the weld line. It is rarely a sudden failure. It is almost always corrosion working on a stress point for two or three Texas summers before the metal gives up.

Which Ghost Controls Models This Applies To

Ghost Controls builds the AXDP, AXD, and TSS series openers for swing gates, plus the SL series for slide gates. They are popular in Carrollton because they are simple, battery-friendly, and priced lower than the commercial lines we also service, like LiftMaster and DoorKing. The fabrication points that fail are consistent across the line: the post pivot bracket, the gate-side arm bracket, the clevis pin attachment, and on longer gates the mid-rail stiffener where the opener arm mounts.

Before replacing a fabricated Ghost Controls part, the model matters. The AXDP uses a heavier post bracket than the standard AXD, and the bolt pattern is not interchangeable. TSS-series posts need a different wall thickness at the weld point because the arm travel is longer. We measure the bracket on-site and photograph the label before any part is ordered or welded, so there is no guessing. Most Carrollton homes running Ghost Controls have the AXD or AXDP on a tubular steel driveway gate, and the failure we see most is the gate-side bracket rusting at the weld toes where the arm connects.

Vance Gate Repair Carrollton is an independent service provider, not affiliated with Ghost Controls. We work on Ghost Controls systems every week, but we are not a Ghost Controls dealer, and we will tell you plainly when an OEM part is worth the wait and when a locally fabricated bracket of equal or better steel is the smarter call.

Signs Your Ghost Controls Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

Signs Your Ghost Controls Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
  • The gate sags toward the latch side. This usually means the post pivot bracket is bending or the weld has started to tear. The opener still works, but it is pushing against a gate that is no longer square, and every cycle makes the tear longer.
  • The opener arm makes a knocking sound at the end of travel. The clevis pin or the arm bracket has worn to the point of play. Ghost Controls arms ride on a pin that should be snug. When it is not, the knock is the arm slamming into its own slop.
  • Visible rust bleeding from the bracket welds. Carrollton humidity and the occasional ice storm put moisture right at the weld toe, which is where paint coverage is thinnest. Rust streaks down the post are a sign the weld is losing section.
  • The gate stops mid-travel and reverses. Ghost Controls openers have obstruction sensing. When a cracked bracket flexes during travel, the board reads the resistance spike as an obstruction and reverses. The opener is not bad. The bracket is.
  • The arm has pulled loose from the gate face. This is the endpoint. The weld or the bolts have failed, and the opener is now swinging free or dragging. At this stage the gate is unsafe to run, not just unreliable.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Carrollton, expect to pay between $185 and $410 for most Ghost Controls welding and fabrication repairs. A simple clevis pin replacement with a fabricated match runs at the lower end. A post bracket that has to be cut off, the post ground clean, a new bracket fabricated and welded, then primed and painted, lands at the higher end. If the gate itself has rust-through at the arm mount and needs a steel patch plate welded in, that adds labor and material.

The range depends on three things: access to the weld site, how much corrosion removal is required before a sound weld can be made, and whether the bracket is still available as an OEM Ghost Controls part or we are fabricating from our own stock. We use 1/4-inch steel plate for most replacements because the Ghost Controls factory brackets are thinner than we would like on anything wider than a 10-foot gate leaf.

Our price is written down and handed to you before we start. That price includes the part, the weld, grinding, priming, paint, and the photo record of the finished work. There is no separate trip charge, and no surprise line item for “miscellaneous.” Every completed fabrication job carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the weld fails or the bracket shifts within a year, we come back and make it right at no charge. We operate under The Haven Standard: a written scope, a written price, and photographic evidence on every visit. That is Clause 1 and Clause 4, and we do not skip them.

There are things worth checking yourself. Look at the arm bracket and the post bracket. If you see rust trails, if the bolts are loose, if the pin has visible side play, you have found something real and you can tell us exactly what you saw. That saves diagnostic time.

What we do not recommend is welding the bracket back while the gate is under tension, or running a MIG bead over rust without grinding first. A cracked bracket is one thing. A gate leaf that comes off its hinges while someone is under it is another. Ghost Controls arms are not high-tension like a garage door spring, but a steel gate weighs hundreds of pounds and holds position over a driveway where kids and cars move through. That is not the place for a first weld. If you want the part matched, the weld done square, and the record of what was installed, call (817) 778-4585. We quote it before we touch it.
